Mariví Rodríguez Quiñones

I have always been passionate about performing arts . As a lecturer in the Department of Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies at King’s College London, I incorporated theatre techniques and methods into my teaching because performing gives students more confidence when speaking a foreign language
FesTeLõn -The Festival of Spanish Theatre in London- began back in 2013 when I realized that there was a real dearth of Spanish theatre in London. My idea was to hold a festival to enable Spanish theatre companies to bring their work to London and importantly, to create cultural and linguistic bridges between Spain and the UK. I’m thrilled to say that FesTeLõn has grown over the years, from one play in 2013 to six plays in 2019 until the present year.
For the past few years, I had the honour of serving as a jury member at Almagro OFF in Spain. Almagro OFF is part of the Almagro International Festival of Classical Theatre, a leading cultural event in the Spanish theatre calendar.
In 2021 we introduced FesTeLOFF, an innovative idea, with the aim to give emerging theatre companies resident in the UK the opportunity to perform side by side with established professionals from Spain. This has been a hugely-successful initiative and it has grown every year since it was first launched.
For the last eleven years, I have put my heart and soul into creating and developing FesTeLõn into a successful and unique event which both the Spanish speaking community in London and the wider
English speaking community can enjoy. My greatest hope is that it will continue to grow and go from strength to strength with your support!
Long live theatre!
