Beatriz Luna Gijón

My love of theatre and language has always gone hand in hand, which makes being part of FesTeLõn – the Festival of Spanish Theatre in London – especially meaningful to me. I have long admired the commitment and creativity of everyone involved in the festival, and the wonderful way their work brings contemporary Spanish theatre to life for audiences in London.
I hold a BA (Hons) in Modern Languages (English and Spanish) and have spent my career teaching both languages. Although now retired from full-time teaching, I continue to tutor GCSE, A-level and undergraduate students, which keeps me closely connected to the richness of language and literature.
I have a particular passion for translation and the way it can open up new worlds. In theatre, this feels especially powerful: it allows English-speaking audiences to experience the humour, emotion and nuance of Spanish plays that they might not otherwise encounter. I find it deeply rewarding to play a small part in making these connections possible.
Being involved in FesTeLõn brings together everything I care about: theatre, language and cultural exchange. It is a privilege to contribute to a festival that creates such a warm and inspiring space for sharing stories across languages and cultures.
